Ivory’s journey in helping others heal started when she decides to study Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, Canada BC. There she learnt about western health care and acquired scientific knowledge of the human body. During the time of her Co-op experience as a laboratory assistant in China Medical University in Taiwan, she had a chance to be treated by an Acupuncturist for a musculoskeletal injury for the first time. That was the one treatment that changed her belief in Chinese Medicine and inspired her to pursue this ancient medicine.
Fascinated by how ancient knowledge from her overseas origin still works on the human body to this day, Ivory started working as a TCM herbal clinic assistant in Vancouver's Chinatown to investigate more about Traditional Chinese Medicine. She then studied Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Vancouver(ICTCMV) and interned at the Tzu Chi Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. Later in her career, she also followed several doctors in China that practices developed acupuncture techniques. Places that she has travelled to in the search of mastering the art of acupuncture includes Guang Dong, Si Chuan, Beijing, where TCM has its roots and extensive developments in Asia.
Ivory also had experience working as a community health worker in Victoria, BC, which had her cross paths with several groups of vulnerable populations. She worked with individuals dealing with age-related challenges, disabilities, mental and substance use challenges. To understand this ancient treasure further and be able to put it to use in modern ways, Ivory is always learning from the most updated research and hands-on experiences from various experts of the field.
Ivory advocates for her client’s right in getting “client-initiated” care. Ivory strongly believes that the key to changing a health course lies in the client’s visions and motivation in self-care. In other words, a transformation of health starts with the client understanding the uniqueness of their body.
